Supreme Court Acquits Manmohan Singh, Kerala CM Calls for Apology
The Supreme Court of India decided that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was not guilty in a coal block case.
He had been accused of giving a coal block to a company in 2005.
After the court cleared him, the Chief Minister of Kerala, V D Satheesan, said the media and a group called the Sangh Parivar should apologize.
Satheesan praised Singh’s leadership and said history would judge him fairly.
The case also involved an industrialist named Kumar Mangalam Birla and a former coal secretary.
The Supreme Court closed the criminal case and set aside a summons that had been issued against Singh.
This means Singh is officially innocent in that case.
Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan demanded an apology from the Sangh Parivar and media for hounding former PM Manmohan Singh over a coal block allocation scam.
The Supreme Court closed the criminal case against Singh, acquitting him and setting aside a summoning order.
Singh, who died on December 27, 2024, was formally cleared of wrongdoing in the Talabira-II coal block allocation case involving Hindalco.
The case involved accusations against Singh, industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, ex‑coal secretary P C Parakh, and three others.
