BJP Lawmaker Slams Cow Protection Law, Vigilantes
A politician in Maharashtra is speaking out against a law meant to protect cows.
He says the law actually hurts farmers because it stops them from selling cows that aren't producing milk anymore.
He also says that people who are supposed to be protecting cows are actually causing problems by taking money from farmers and stopping them from transporting their animals.
The police have said that only they can check animal transport, but some people think this won't stop the problems.
BJP MLC Sadabhau Khot criticized the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act of 2015.
Khot stated the Act harms farmers by hindering the sale and transport of unproductive cattle.
He also condemned cow vigilantes for extortion and disrupting animal transport.
Maharashtra police issued a circular clarifying that only police can inspect animal transport vehicles.
A Congress spokesperson termed the police circular as an eyewash, criticizing the lack of action against vigilantes.
