North Andhra Secretariat Employees Intensify Protest Over Long-Pending Demands

Ward and village secretariat employees held a protest in Visakhapatnam.

They had been demonstrating peacefully for three days.

On the final day, hundreds of workers sat on a road and stopped traffic.

Police arrived and tried to persuade them to move.

The workers want eligible employees to receive permanent status.

They also want fair salaries, promotions, transfers and job security.

Other demands involve probation payments and better welfare benefits.

They said the protest may become stronger if their problems are not solved.
