Urad MSP 8,400 Rs, Only 30 Tonnes Procured
The state government of Madhya Pradesh wants farmers to grow black gram, called urad, instead of green gram, called moong.
They set a price of 8,400 rupees for each quintal of urad and added a bonus.
Even though the state produces a lot of urad, farmers have not sold it to the government.
The market price for urad can be between 6,500 and 10,200 rupees.
Because the farmers prefer moong, the government could only buy 30 tonnes of urad.
This has caused a disagreement between the government and the farmers.
Madhya Pradesh government urges farmers to grow urad instead of moong.
MSP for urad is ₹8,400 per quintal with a ₹600 bonus, but only 30 tonnes were procured.
State output of urad is 4.73 lakh tonnes, yet farmers have not sold to procurement centers.
Market price for urad ranges ₹6,500–₹10,200 per quintal; farmers sell to traders at mandis.
Farmers reject the government’s push, preferring to grow moong, leading to a procurement shortfall.
