ispace's Resilience Lander Crashes on Moon During Landing Attempt
ispace, a Japanese company, attempted to land its Resilience spacecraft on the Moon but it crashed.
This was the company's second failed attempt.
The lander was headed for a region called Mare Frigoris.
A problem with a measuring tool called the laser rangefinder likely caused the crash.
It seems the rangefinder did not send the landing data needed to adjust landing speed, so the spacecraft hit the Moon too hard and broke.
The company is working to understand why it failed and plan future missions.
ispace's Resilience lunar lander crashed during its landing attempt on the Moon.
The lander lost communication shortly before its scheduled touchdown on June 5.
The crash was attributed to a malfunction in the laser rangefinder, causing it to fail in adjusting landing speed.
The mission aimed to land in the Mare Frigoris region of the Moon.
This was ispace's second failed attempt at a lunar landing.
