Bihar Flood Survivors Face Loss, Displacement and Uncertain Recovery
Floodwater entered many homes in Bhagalpur and forced families to leave.
People are living under black plastic sheets in relief camps.
Many lost important papers, money, food and household goods.
Some families also lost cows and buffaloes, which are important for their livelihoods.
Several residents had been working in other cities and lost wages when they rushed home.
Relief camps provide food, medical help and care for animals.
Children attend classes and take part in art, stories and films to help them cope.
The water has not fully gone away, so many people cannot return home yet.
Residents say cleaning and rebuilding may take until November.
They want the government to move their homes to safer, higher ground.
Floodwaters displaced hundreds of families in Bhagalpur, with many homes, documents, cash, grain and other belongings submerged.
Relief camps at Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University and T N B Collegiate Ground are sheltering people and livestock.
Many displaced residents are migrant workers who lost wages or left unpaid work to return home.
Camps provide meals, medical care, anganwadi classes, fodder and veterinary services, while children attend art and cultural activities.
Residents fear recovery will take months and are seeking safer housing on higher ground rather than temporary relief camps.
