BLA attacks tribal leader Mengal in Balochistan

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) recently attacked the heavily fortified compound of Shafiqur Rehman Mengal, a local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Balochistan.

The attack involved a vehicle explosion and a subsequent battle that lasted over three hours.

Mengal is accused by Baloch nationalists and human rights activists of being a key figure in a Pakistan-backed death squad network.

This network, known as Musallah Defah Tanzeem (MDT), is alleged to target not only armed separatists but also students, political activists, journalists, religious minorities, and personal rivals.

The BLA views the attack as a strike against a central node in the Pakistani counterinsurgency system, while Pakistani authorities describe it as an assault on the residence of a politician.

The attack resulted in significant casualties, with differing reports from Pakistani authorities and the BLA.
