Gurugram Black Cloth Protest Triggers Arrests and Police Action

Congress workers in Gurugram waved black cloths as Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s convoy passed by.

They were protesting problems they said students faced at Gurugram University.

These problems included delayed first-year results, weak infrastructure and a lack of buses.

Police said the protesters got too close to the convoy, creating a security breach.

Eight workers were arrested and booked.

Several police officials were suspended or asked to explain what happened.

An inquiry was also ordered into the intelligence arrangements.

The police commissioner said negligence in protecting important visitors would be dealt with seriously.
