BJP Enforces Jharkhand Bandh Over Police Action Against Job Aspirants

BJP Enforces Jharkhand Bandh Over Police Action Against Job Aspirants

In a part of India called Jharkhand, young people took tests to get government jobs, but they think the tests were not fair.

They have been asking leaders to check what went wrong since July 25.

On Monday, thousands of them marched to the state assembly building in the city of Ranchi.

Police used water cannons, tear gas and batons to stop them, and both police officers and protesters say they were hurt.

This made a political party called the BJP angry, so on Tuesday they called for a one-day shutdown called a bandh.

During the bandh, most schools and shops stayed closed, and very few cars were on the roads.

The students want an independent investigation, maybe by the CBI or by special judges from outside Jharkhand.

Police have arrested 20 people, including the former head of the exam commission, and are also checking if money was involved.

One protest leader named Devendra Nath Mahto, who had not eaten for nine days, became very sick and was taken to hospital, though reports disagreed on whether his condition was stable or critical.

Leaders, including the chief minister, asked everyone to stay peaceful and solve the problem through dialogue.
