ED attaches Rs 442 crore assets in online rummy case
The Enforcement Directorate has taken control of properties and money worth Rs 442.35 crore.
The assets are connected to companies that operated online rummy games.
These companies used brands such as RummyCulture and RummyTime.
The ED says about three crore people used their platforms.
It alleges that the companies secretly used computer programs called BOTs to play against users.
The ED says this caused users to lose money while the companies earned commissions.
It also alleges that the money was moved into investments, shares and properties to make it appear legitimate.
Altogether, the ED says it has attached, frozen or seized assets worth Rs 2,843 crore in the case.
The Enforcement Directorate attached assets worth Rs 442.35 crore linked to online gaming companies Gameskraft Technologies and RummyTime Technologies.
The companies operated RummyCulture, RummyPrime, Playship and RummyTime, reportedly serving around three crore users nationwide.
The ED alleged that the companies used automated players, or BOTs, against users while charging platform commissions of 10% to 15%.
The investigation concerns alleged proceeds of crime generated through online real-money games, including in states where such gaming is banned.
