RBI Hints at Potential UPI Transaction Fees in India
Imagine UPI, the way we pay with our phones, like a super-popular playground.
Right now, the government pays to keep the playground running smoothly.
The RBI Governor, the boss of India's banks, hinted that this might change.
He said that since so many people use it, the playground is getting worn out, and it needs to be sustainable.
He is suggesting that the costs of maintaining the UPI system should be paid by either the users or someone else.
This is because the system does not generate any income.
The details of how this would work, such as if users will pay, are still uncertain.
