8th Pay Commission: DA Hikes Continue
The government has set up the 8th Central Pay Commission to review and update the salaries and pensions of over 50 lakh central government employees and nearly 69 lakh pensioners.
The exact date when these changes will start and how the government will pay for them will be decided later.
The commission will study the current pay structures, talk to different groups, and then make recommendations.
Until the new pay structure is introduced, the dearness allowance (DA) will continue to be calculated and increased as usual, twice a year, to help employees keep up with rising prices.
The latest DA hike was a 3% increase announced in October.
Once the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, the existing DA will be merged into the new basic pay, resetting the salary structure.
The 8th Central Pay Commission has been formed to review and revise pay scales and pensions for 50.14 lakh employees and 69 lakh pensioners.
The Terms of Reference were notified on November 3, 2025, by the Finance Ministry.
The implementation date and funding details for the pay revision will be decided later.
The commission will study existing pay structures, consult stakeholders, and prepare recommendations.
The government will allocate necessary funds once the recommendations are accepted.
Dearness Allowance (DA) will continue to be calculated and increased as usual until the new pay structure is implemented.
