When EPF Interest Stops After Retirement: EPFO Explains Rules

An EPF account can keep earning interest after someone stops working.

If a person retires before age 55, interest can continue until the person turns 58.

If a person retires at age 55 or later, interest can continue for three years after retirement.

After that period, the account becomes inoperative.

An inoperative account does not earn more interest.

The money in the account does not disappear.

The member can still claim the balance under the applicable rules.

People who change jobs should generally transfer their old EPF balance to their new account.
