Navi Mumbai Group Seeks Action on Sirens and Noisy Vehicles
A Navi Mumbai civic group wants the traffic police to reduce loud vehicle noise at night.
It says residents have complained about ambulance sirens on quiet roads and cars or bikes with altered silencers.
The group pointed to Bhau Sakharam Marg in Belapur, where it says sirens are often heard between midnight and 5am.
It recognizes that people may not know whether an ambulance is responding to an emergency.
The group also wants checks on vehicles that make excessive exhaust noise.
It suggested night-time enforcement and using CCTV to identify vehicles for inspection.
It says camera footage alone should not prove that a vehicle broke noise rules.
The group wants the police to report enforcement results and explain what action was taken.
Sajag Nagrik Manch asked Navi Mumbai traffic police to address alleged unnecessary ambulance sirens and vehicles with modified or removed silencers.
The group submitted its representation to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Rahul Khade on September 30.
It cited resident complaints about night-time noise, including ambulance sirens heard on Bhau Sakharam Marg in Belapur between midnight and 5am.
The Manch proposed targeted enforcement from 10pm to 6am and checks supported by CCTV leads, followed by physical inspection and verification.
It called for enforcement data and written information on the response, while saying its request should not inconvenience emergency ambulance services.
