RBI Introduces New Rules for Urban Cooperative Banks
The RBI, which is like the boss of banks in India, is updating the rules for smaller banks called UCBs.
They are replacing old rules with new ones called ECBA.
To follow the new rules, banks need to be financially healthy, like having enough money and not too many bad loans.
The RBI wants these banks to be doing well so that they can provide services to people and businesses that may not have easy access to bigger banks.
Banks are grouped into different categories based on how much money they hold.
RBI proposes new eligibility criteria (ECBA) for Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs).
ECBA replaces existing FSWM norms for business authorizations.
UCBs must meet criteria including capital adequacy, net NPAs, and profitability.
Banks are classified into four tiers based on deposit size.
UCBs play a role in providing banking services to underserved communities.
