ICEYE Establishes India Entity, Plans Local Satellite Manufacturing
ICEYE is a Finnish company that builds satellites.
It has officially created a new branch called ICEYE India.
The branch will work with India’s defence and intelligence customers.
ICEYE also wants to make satellites in India.
It plans to use Indian suppliers and engineers for this work.
Its satellites use radar, so they can take images during the day or night and through clouds.
The company says these satellites could help with defence, surveillance and environmental monitoring.
ICEYE may build and launch satellites for India and then give an Indian authority full control of them.
Finnish satellite company ICEYE formally established ICEYE India in New Delhi on Monday.
The entity will initially support India’s defence and intelligence customers with satellite-based intelligence capabilities.
ICEYE plans to build satellite manufacturing capacity in India using local suppliers, sourcing and engineering talent.
The company says its Indian operations will also serve surveillance and environmental monitoring needs.
ICEYE may develop and launch satellites for India before transferring full control and sovereignty to an Indian authority.
