Agriculture Minister Orders Probe into 'Paltry Payments' Under Crop Insurance Scheme
Imagine a special insurance plan for farmers that helps them when their crops get damaged by bad weather.
The person in charge of farming in the country, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, heard that some farmers were getting tiny amounts of money, like just one rupee, from this plan.
He thinks this is not fair and not right.
So, he has told his team to go out and check on the farms to see why this is happening and make sure farmers are being treated fairly.
He wants to make sure the insurance plan is truly helping them when they need it.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered investigations into the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
The probe is to look into instances of extremely low payments, even as low as Re 1, being made to farmers.
Chouhan described these small payments as a 'mockery'.
The directive was given during a high-level meeting in Delhi to discuss farmer issues with the insurance scheme.
