FSSAI Orders Inspections for Auramine in Roasted Chana
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has asked all states to check roasted chana and similar products for a harmful dye called auramine.
This dye is not allowed in food and can make the product unsafe.
The FSSAI wants states to inspect and test these products in both big and small businesses, as well as online stores.
They also want a report on what actions are taken.
This is to make sure that the food we eat is safe and follows the rules.
FSSAI directed states to inspect and sample roasted chana products for auramine, a non-permitted synthetic food colour.
Auramine is not allowed in food and makes products unsafe.
Inspections should cover organised and unorganised sectors, as well as retail and e-commerce platforms.
Commissioners of Food Safety in all states and union territories must take action against businesses that violate the rules.
FSSAI has asked for a report on the surveillance and actions taken.
