Maharashtra Approves Aggregators Policy for App-Based Transport
Maharashtra has created new rules for ride-hailing apps like Uber and Ola.
These rules set limits on how much prices can go up during busy times and how much discounts can be given during off-peak times.
If a driver cancels, they get fined, and the same happens if a passenger cancels without a good reason.
The new rules also cover carpooling, making sure women can choose to ride with only women drivers or passengers, and are pushing the companies to start using electric vehicles.
The aim is to make things fairer and safer for everyone.
Maharashtra approved the Aggregators Policy to regulate app-based mobility services.
The policy follows a Supreme Court directive from February 2023.
Fare structures will align with regional transport authority base rates, with caps on surge pricing and discounts.
Cancellation penalties are introduced for both drivers and passengers.
The policy includes guidelines for carpooling, driver safety, and a push for electric vehicles.
