Disabled Military Cadets Gain Health Cover
Around 500 officer cadets in India were medically discharged from military training due to disabilities.
For years, they struggled with high medical bills and poor benefits.
In August 2025, the Supreme Court noticed their plight and ordered the government to provide them with free healthcare under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS).
This scheme covers all medical expenses at military and empanelled hospitals.
While this is a big help, the cadets are still fighting for disability pensions and ex-serviceman status.
The Supreme Court is hearing their case and has made several recommendations to improve their situation.
The cadets and their families are hopeful that their long-term livelihood and medical needs will be taken care of soon.
