PMC to Procure Environment Clearance for Paud Phata-Balbharati Road
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking steps to get an Environment Clearance (EC) certificate for a new road called the Paud Phata-Balbharati Link Road.
This road has been delayed for many years because people and environmentalists were worried about the impact on the local environment, especially the biodiversity on Vetal Tekdi.
The Supreme Court has allowed the road to be built, but only if the PMC first gets the EC certificate.
The PMC is going to hire experts to study the environment and make a plan to protect it.
They will look at things like water and air quality, noise levels, and the types of plants and animals in the area.
A civic activist named Vivek Velankar says the PMC should do this process in a way that is open and honest so that the public's concerns are addressed.
PMC to appoint an expert consultant to finalize the Environment Clearance (EC) certificate process for the Paud Phata-Balbharati Link Road.
The 2.1 km road, 30 meters wide, aims to bypass Law College Road and was included in Pune's Development Plan despite opposition.
Supreme Court approved the project contingent on securing the EC certificate, with no construction allowed until then.
The appointed agency will conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and prepare an Environmental Management Plan (EMP).
Civic activist Vivek Velankar emphasizes the importance of a transparent and proper EC certificate process to address public concerns.
