Japan's Opposition Parties Unite Ahead of Election

Japan's Opposition Parties Unite Ahead of Election

In Japan, two big opposition parties, the CDPJ and Komeito, have decided to join together to form a new party.

They want to work as a team to challenge the current government, which has been in power for a long time.

The prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, is quite popular, but the opposition parties think that by uniting, they have a better chance of winning in the upcoming election.

The election is expected to happen on February 8, with campaigning starting on January 27.

The leaders of the CDPJ and Komeito say it's important for centrist forces to come together.

However, even after forming the new party, the original parties will still exist for members of the House of Councillors.
