Army Lags in Capital Spending
The Indian Army is getting less money for buying new things like weapons and equipment compared to the Navy and Air Force.
This has been happening since 2021.
The Army's share of spending on new things has dropped a lot, from 28.74% in 2016 to 18.54% in 2024.
Even though there are still 8 terror camps near the border, the Army is not getting as much money as the other forces.
The Army does get the biggest share of money for salaries, though, at 76.69% in the 2026 budget.
The Army also has to pay a lot for pensions, but this has gotten a bit easier since 2017.
Army's share of defence capital spending fell from 28.74% in FY16 to 18.54% in FY24.
Army lags behind Navy and IAF in modernization due to lower capital expenditure.
Army accounts for 76.69% of defence salary spending in FY26.
Army shoulders the bulk of defence pension expenditure, with some easing after FY17.
General Upendra Dwivedi reported 8 active terror camps across the International Border and Line of Control.
