8th Pay Commission: 2.75 or 3.5 Fitment Factor Salary Scenarios

8th Pay Commission: 2.75 or 3.5 Fitment Factor Salary Scenarios

The 8th Pay Commission is studying how much central government employees and pensioners may be paid in the future.

One important number is called the fitment factor.

It is a multiplier applied to an employee’s current basic pay.

If the factor is 2.75, a basic pay of ₹18,000 would become an estimated ₹49,500.

If it is 3.5, the same basic pay would become ₹63,000.

These are examples, not promised salaries.

The final salary will also depend on allowances such as dearness allowance, house rent allowance and transport allowance.

The commission is still consulting stakeholders, and the government must approve its recommendations.

The final factor is tentatively expected to be known after a report planned for May-June 2027.
