Indian State Firms Prepare $1 Billion Debt Offering Amid Lower Rates
Imagine big government companies in India need to borrow money, like taking out a loan from many people at once.
Three of these companies are getting ready to ask for about $1 billion from investors by selling special IOUs called bonds.
They are planning to offer these bonds with different 'due dates,' some in 5 years and some in 15 years.
They are doing this now because the cost of borrowing money, called interest rates, has gone down recently.
This makes it cheaper for them to borrow.
Also, there haven't been many of these types of safe bonds available lately, so investors might be eager to buy them.
One recent bond sale by another company also showed that investors are interested in these longer-term, safer bonds.
Three Indian state-run firms are planning bond offerings aiming to raise up to $1 billion.
The companies are NaBFID, Power Grid Corp, and HUDCO, with maturities ranging from five to 15 years.
Bond yields in India have decreased recently, making borrowing costs lower for these companies.
There is an observed shortage of long-duration, high-quality corporate bonds in the market.
A recent bond issue by NTPC Green Energy saw strong investor response, indicating appetite for similar offerings.
