Ganesh Kuppala Receives Freedom of the City of London
Ganesh Kuppala is a community leader who lives and works in London.
He was given the Freedom of the City of London on September 16.
The award is part of a very old City of London tradition.
In the past, it gave people certain rights, including the right to trade in the city.
Most of those practical rights no longer exist today.
People receiving the honour make a formal declaration and receive a special parchment certificate.
Kuppala said he felt honoured and humbled.
He said the recognition showed a connection between his work, the City of London and its links with India.
Indian-origin professional and community leader Ganesh Kuppala received the Freedom of the City of London at Guildhall on September 16.
Kuppala, originally from Miryalaguda in Telangana’s Nalgonda district, is based in London.
He works as a tax director, community leader and motivational speaker.
The medieval civic tradition now includes a ceremony featuring the Freeman’s Declaration, a parchment certificate and a welcome as a “Citizen of London.”
Kuppala said the honour reflected the City’s traditions of enterprise, leadership, service, culture and civic contribution, as well as historic India-UK links.
