Govt blames Congress for disrupting Parliament's Monsoon Session

The Indian Parliament just finished a meeting period called the Monsoon Session.

During this time, lawmakers are supposed to discuss new laws and rules.

The government says it wanted to have these discussions, but Kiren Rijiju, the minister in charge of Parliament, says the Congress party made too much noise and stopped the talks by 'running away' from debate.

Because of the disruptions, the Lok Sabha only worked 19 percent of its scheduled time, while the Rajya Sabha worked 39 percent.

Even so, the government passed 12 new bills.

Only one law about stopping cheating in government exams was properly discussed in both Houses.

The Congress party says the opposite: it claims the government was the one avoiding debate and acting 'scared and rattled'.

During the session, the education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, resigned after student protests.

Some experts are worried that important laws were passed without enough discussion.
