India Considers Doubling Digital Agriculture Mission Funds
The Indian government is thinking about giving a lot more money to a program called the Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM).
They might give ₹7,500 crore for the years 2027 to 2030, which is more than double what they gave before.
This money will be used to help farmers by using computers and smart technologies to give them better information about weather, soil, and pests.
This can help farmers grow more food and lose less of their crops.
The government has been working on similar ideas for a long time, but this time they want to make everything work together better.
They also have a big plan called IndiaAI Mission to make India better at using computers for many things, including farming.
Experts say this can help farmers a lot if the government and private companies work together to make these tools easy to use and not too expensive.
Additionally, there is a discussion about taxing agricultural incomes to provide more resources for the sector, but this idea is controversial and has been debated in the past.
Government considering doubling Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM) funds to ₹7,500 crore for FY27-FY30, up from ₹2,817 crore for FY22-FY26.
AI and digital technologies to be deployed for real-time decision-making on weather, soil, irrigation, and pest management in agriculture.
Annual harvest loss due to pests in India is estimated at ₹2 trillion.
DAM aims to create a digital public infrastructure for agriculture, including AgriStack and Krishi Decision Support System (KDSS).
Budget may also announce financial assistance for states to onboard farmers on the VISTAAR platform for real-time agricultural information.
