Maharashtra Prepares for Local Elections
In Maharashtra, India, the State Election Commissioner announced that people running for local government positions, like in cities, districts, and local councils, can now submit their forms both online and in person.
This decision was made to help candidates who asked for this option.
The government is also working to make sure there are no duplicate names in the voter list by using computers and visiting people's homes.
They have also made a website and an app to help people check if they are registered to vote.
Meanwhile, political parties are preparing for the upcoming elections, with the ruling coalition planning to contest together and the opposition facing internal disagreements.
The dates for the Mumbai civic elections are expected to be announced soon.
Maharashtra will allow offline nomination filing for municipal corporation, Zilla Parishad, and Panchayat Samiti elections.
The decision was made to accommodate demands from candidates and political parties.
Elections are planned for 29 municipal corporations, 32 Zilla Parishads, and 336 Panchayat Samitis.
The State Election Commission is taking measures to identify and correct duplicate voter entries.
A website (mahasecvoterlist.in) and mobile app ('Matadhikar') have been launched to help citizens search for their names in the voter list.
