Duminy Sees Leadership and All-Rounders Key Ahead of SA20 Auction
The SA20 teams will pick players at an auction on October 7.
Most teams already have much of their squads, so this is expected to be a smaller auction.
JP Duminy says teams will look for players who fill the roles they still need.
He thinks leadership, fast bowling and mystery spin can be important.
Duminy says Faf du Plessis could be attractive because he leads teams and keeps scoring runs.
He also thinks all-rounder Wiaan Mulder and batter Rassie van der Dussen may draw interest.
Teams need a balanced group of players, not just many batters or bowlers.
Duminy says choosing players who suit home conditions could help teams compete with Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
That team has won the SA20 title three times.
The SA20 Season 5 auction is set for October 7 and is expected to be a smaller, mini-auction as most squads are largely settled.
JP Duminy says franchises will focus on filling specific squad gaps, including leadership and top- and middle-order roles.
He expects high-pace bowlers and mystery spinners to be valued for the different skills they offer.
Duminy identified Faf du Plessis for his leadership and consistent run-scoring, and Wiaan Mulder and Rassie van der Dussen as players who could attract strong interest.
He says recruitment suited to home conditions could help a team challenge three-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
