CWC Calls Telangana, Maharashtra Meeting Over Tummidihatti Barrage

CWC Calls Telangana, Maharashtra Meeting Over Tummidihatti Barrage

Telangana wants to build a large water barrage called Tummidihatti.

The barrage would be built on two rivers near where they join.

Because the project could affect Maharashtra, officials from both states must discuss it.

The Central Water Commission has scheduled this discussion for September 1 in New Delhi.

Telangana’s chief minister has asked Maharashtra’s chief minister and the central government to help find an agreement.

Telangana says the proposed barrage would not flood villages in Maharashtra.

It estimates that most of the affected land would be riverbed, although some land in a wildlife sanctuary could be underwater.

Officials are expected to discuss a report about whether the project is practical.
