Karnataka Seeks Extension of UDAN Funding
The Karnataka government wants the central government to extend the financial help for the UDAN scheme from 3 years to 7 or 10 years.
This is because some flights under the scheme are having problems, and one airport in Kalaburagi had to close when the only flight there stopped.
The minister, M B Patil, wrote to the central government to either get new companies to run the flights or extend the current scheme.
The UDAN scheme is meant to make air travel available to more people in India.
Karnataka Industry Minister M B Patil requested the central government to extend the UDAN scheme's financial assistance from 3 years to 7 or 10 years.
The request aims to prevent the closure of airports due to operational issues and discontinuation of flights.
The discontinuation of Star Air's flight between Bengaluru and Kalaburagi led to the closure of Kalaburagi airport.
Patil suggested inviting new bids from eligible companies to continue flight operations under the UDAN scheme.
The UDAN scheme is intended to make air travel more accessible to the common people in India.
