Tax Benefits Detailed for Defence Personnel Under Income Tax Act
Imagine the government has special tax rules just for people in the army and other security jobs.
These people get to save money on their taxes in different ways, like not paying taxes on some of their pension or money they get when they retire.
They can also deduct money they put into a special fund.
However, the tax forms don't always show exactly who is in the army or other forces, so it's hard to know how many people are using these special tax breaks.
Defence personnel and veterans are eligible for specific tax exemptions and deductions under the Income Tax Act of 1961.
Exclusive benefits include exemptions on gratuity, commuted pension, and income from welfare funds.
Pension received by gallantry award recipients is fully exempt, as is family pension for those who died on duty.
Contributions to the Agnipath Scheme and Agniveer Corpus Fund are eligible for deductions.
Current ITR forms do not specify the branch of service a taxpayer belongs to.
