Jharkhand to Promote Alternative Farming on Former Poppy Fields
Imagine farmers in Jharkhand were growing a plant called poppy illegally to make opium, a drug.
The government stepped in and destroyed a lot of these plants this year.
Now, they don't want the farmers to grow them again.
So, the government is helping the farmers by encouraging them to grow other plants or plant trees instead.
They will also hold training programs from June 10 to 26 to teach people about the dangers of drugs.
The goal is to make sure the land is used in a good way and to stop the use of illegal drugs in the state.
The government is also training people to spread awareness about the negative effects of drug abuse.
Officials from different organizations such as the Narcotics Control Bureau, Ranchi Institute of Neuropsychiatry and Allied Sciences, and UNICEF attended the event to provide presentations on the issue.
Jharkhand government plans to promote alternative farming and afforestation on land previously used for poppy cultivation.
The state destroyed poppy crops on approximately 25,000 acres this year, six times more than the previous year.
The government aims to prevent the recurrence of opium farming in the affected areas.
An anti-drug awareness program is scheduled from June 10 to 26.
The state is training 848 master trainers for the upcoming awareness program.
