Trump Expands Beef Import Quota to Ease Prices

Trump Expands Beef Import Quota to Ease Prices

The United States is allowing more lean beef to be imported for a short time.

This beef is mixed with American beef to make ground beef.

The government hopes the extra supply will help lower prices for shoppers.

The new allowance totals 300,000 metric tonnes.

It will be offered in three batches between September 1 and November 30.

Officials say drought, wildfires and problems importing cattle from Mexico have reduced beef supplies.

The government expects American beef production to fall by about 4% from 2025 levels.

It says the extra imports could increase total beef supply by about 10%.

However, government data also showed that the cattle herd had begun growing in July.
