Mumbai BEST Adds 157 Electric Buses, CM Stresses Non-Fare Revenue
Mumbai's bus service, called BEST, just got 157 new electric buses.
These buses are quiet, don't make the air dirty, and will make it easier for people to travel around the city, especially those who need help getting on and off.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra was there to celebrate the new buses.
He also told BEST that they need to find more ways to make money besides just selling tickets.
This will help BEST stay strong and keep running smoothly for everyone in Mumbai.
The new buses will help more people get to train stations and the metro, making it easier to get to many places in the city.
BEST has added 157 new air-conditioned electric buses to its fleet through a wet lease system.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the new buses and urged BEST to increase non-fare revenue to at least 40% of total income.
The new buses aim to improve service frequency, reduce waiting times, and enhance commuter comfort.
These eco-friendly buses are equipped with features like ramps and a kneeling mechanism for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers.
The new fleet will serve 21 routes, connecting key railway stations and major Metro corridors, benefiting approximately 1.9 lakh commuters daily.
