Uttar Pradesh MSP Wheat Procurement Boosts Farmers' Finances
Uttar Pradesh has a program that buys wheat from farmers at a set price called the Minimum Support Price.
Over nine years, the state bought 24.4 million tonnes of wheat from 5.2 million farmers and gave them almost 46 trillion rupees straight into their bank accounts.
The program uses many computer tools so farmers can register online and get paid quickly.
It also set up almost 6,000 buying centers so farmers don’t have to travel far.
The government says this helps farmers stay financially healthy and grow their farms better.
Uttar Pradesh’s MSP wheat procurement has supported farmers for nine years, procuring 24.426 million tonnes from 5.17 million farmers.
The state transferred ₹45,935.46 crore directly to farmers’ bank accounts between 2017‑18 and 2025‑26.
Procurement exceeded targets in 2018‑19 (105.84%) and 2021‑22, with 5.292 and 5.641 million tonnes respectively.
5,847 procurement centres and digital tools (online registration, verification, time‑bound payments) bring the system closer to villages and cut middlemen.
The government aims to ensure every eligible farmer benefits, resolve grievances, and maintain high standards at centres.
