Honduran Election Fraud Allegations in Tight Race
In Honduras, a very close presidential election is happening.
Two main candidates, Salvador Nasralla and Nasry Asfura, are neck and neck.
Nasralla, who was leading earlier, now says the votes were changed by a computer program, giving Asfura a small lead.
About 14% of the votes need to be checked because they have mistakes.
The U.S. President, Donald Trump, supports Asfura and has talked about possible fraud.
People are waiting to see the final results, and everyone is hoping for a peaceful outcome.
The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State has also said that the world is watching the election closely.
Nasry Asfura, backed by U.S. President Donald Trump, leads Salvador Nasralla by about 20,450 votes with 86.54% of ballots tallied.
14% of ballots showed inconsistencies and will be reviewed, according to officials.
Nasralla alleges that Trump's endorsement flipped the race and rejects Trump's label of him as a 'borderline communist.'
The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, stated that democracy is on trial in Honduras and the world is watching.
Honduras elects its president in a single round, and the candidate with the most votes wins, even if the margin is narrow.
