Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia defence pact mirrors NATO Article 5

Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia defence pact mirrors NATO Article 5

Three countries—Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia—signed a special promise called the "Mecca Joint Defence Agreement."

The promise says that if someone attacks one of them, it is like attacking all three of them.

That means the other two countries would treat the attack as if it happened to them too, and would decide together how to help.

A leader from Turkey named Hakan Fidan said this promise works the same way as NATO's Article 5, a rule used by a big group of countries that protect each other.

He said the agreement is not meant to hurt Iran or any other country.

Fidan also said the three countries only want to defend themselves and bring peace to their region.

The three countries will hold meetings to talk about security, and they will set up an office in Saudi Arabia.

The agreement is open to other countries joining later, and Egypt might join once some details are sorted out.

This promise is a way for the three countries to feel safer together and to keep each other's backs.
