Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: August 14 Honors 1947 Partition Victims

In 1947, a country called British India was split into two new countries: India and Pakistan.

Many people had to leave their homes and move to the other country, and it was a very sad and scary time.

Lots of families lost their homes, and many people got hurt during the division.

Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs were all forced to move.

Places like Punjab and Bengal were split in half.

Every year on August 14, India has a special day called Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to remember everyone who suffered.

The leader of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, started this special day in 2021.

It reminds people that dividing people because of religion or identity can cause terrible pain.

The day teaches us to remember history, stay united, and be kind to one another.
