Mumbai Street Food Hygiene Changes After Official Crackdown

Mumbai Street Food Hygiene Changes After Official Crackdown

A video says Mumbai’s street food is becoming cleaner.

Vendors are reportedly using butter paper instead of newspaper to wrap vada pav.

Newspaper ink can transfer onto food, so this is seen as a safer choice.

Many food sellers are also using gloves and hairnets.

Some restaurants have reportedly stopped using bright artificial colours.

Plates, pans, and cooking tools were shown being cleaned carefully.

Some packaged food and ketchup bottles now display prices, ingredients, and expiry dates.

The changes followed action by food safety commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.

The video became very popular, receiving more than 35.5 million views.
