Indore High Court Treats WhatsApp Messages as Dying Declaration

Indore High Court Treats WhatsApp Messages as Dying Declaration

A young man named Santosh died by suicide in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, India.

Before he died, he sent three WhatsApp messages to his father.

In those messages, he named three men who he said were threatening and harassing him.

The police believe the men's behavior over an old farming-land disagreement pushed Santosh to end his life.

The three men were arrested and asked the court to release them on bail while they wait for their trial.

The judge refused, saying the WhatsApp messages are like the man's final words pointing to the people responsible.

The judge treated those messages as a 'dying declaration,' which courts take very seriously.

The men's lawyers said the messages were made up because of an old grudge and asked for a closer look at the evidence.

The judge said a bail hearing is not the place for a full trial and that all the arguments will be tested at trial.

Until then, the three men must stay in jail.
