Sanskrit Course Introduced at LUMS in Pakistan
A professor named Shahid Rasheed found old Sanskrit books in a college in Lahore, Pakistan.
He and another scholar decided to teach Sanskrit at a university called LUMS.
Now, students there can learn Sanskrit, which is a very old language.
This is the first time since a long time ago that Sanskrit is being taught in Pakistan.
Eight students have already signed up to learn it.
They even had a special workshop to learn how to read the Sanskrit alphabet.
It's a big deal because it shows that people in Pakistan are interested in learning about different languages and cultures.
Shahid Rasheed discovered Sanskrit books at MAO College, Lahore, leading to the introduction of a Sanskrit course at LUMS.
The course is open to all LUMS students, regardless of their major, and has attracted eight students for its debut semester.
A Devanagari workshop was held by Rasheed and scholar Ali Usman Qasmi at the Gurmani Center of Languages and Literature at LUMS.
This marks the first known instance of Sanskrit being taught in Pakistan since the Partition.
The initiative aims to revive the study of Sanskrit and make it accessible to students in Pakistan.
