SC Urges Kerala Governor to Act on V-C Appointments
The Supreme Court of India is asking the Governor of Kerala, Rajendra Arlekar, to make a decision about who should be the new leaders of two universities.
A retired judge, Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, made a report with recommendations, but the Governor has not yet decided.
The court said the Governor should not treat the report as just a piece of paper but should carefully consider it and make a decision.
The court is concerned because the Governor has been delaying, and they want the universities to have their new leaders soon.
The next hearing about this issue is scheduled for next week.
The Supreme Court expressed concern over the Kerala Governor's delay in deciding on a report by a former judge regarding Vice-Chancellor appointments.
The report was submitted by Justice (retired) Sudhanshu Dhulia, who headed a search-cum-selection committee for the appointments.
The Governor argued that the Chief Minister's involvement in the process was not envisaged by the University Grants Commission or state laws.
The Supreme Court reminded the Governor that the committee was appointed with the concurrence of all parties and urged him to take an appropriate decision.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for next week.
