Czech PM Babis' Government Wins Confidence Vote
The Czech Prime Minister, Andrej Babis, and his government won a vote in parliament.
This vote was important because it allowed his government to officially take power.
Babis and his party, ANO, formed a coalition with two other right-wing parties.
His government plans to reduce support for Ukraine, oppose some EU environmental policies, and stop the budget cuts that the previous government had been doing.
Babis wants to spend more money at home and has said the Czech Republic will stop contributing to a program that helps supply ammunition to Ukraine.
However, he has agreed to continue coordinating this program, which has angered one of his coalition partners.
The government also needs to approve a budget plan for 2026 soon.
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis' government won a parliamentary confidence vote with 108 votes in favor and 91 against.
Babis' ANO party formed a coalition with two right-wing parties, including a pro-Russian far-right party.
The government plans to scale back support for Ukraine and oppose EU environmental policies.
Babis wants to reduce the Czech Republic's contribution to a Prague-led program supplying ammunition to Ukraine but will continue to coordinate it.
The government needs to approve a 2026 budget plan this month, with officials flagging a growing budget deficit.
