HAL Announces Second Shakti Engine Line at Koraput
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, or HAL, is expanding a factory in Koraput, Odisha.
The new production line will make Shakti engines used in military helicopters.
The project is expected to cost ₹218 crore.
It is meant to help supply engines for helicopters such as Dhruv and Prachand.
One report says the line could make up to 100 engines each year and be fully established by 2028–29.
The announcement was made as HAL Koraput marked its 2,000th aero-engine delivery.
Rajnath Singh said India needs to build more of its own aircraft engines and the technology needed to make them.
The reports give different figures for how many engines the division has overhauled.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced a ₹218-crore second Shakti engine production line at HAL’s Koraput division in Sunabeda, Odisha.
The line is intended to support indigenous helicopters, including the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter and Prachand Light Combat Helicopter.
One report says the facility is designed to produce up to 100 engines annually and is scheduled to be fully established by 2028–29.
