LIC, Telangana Government Dispute Over Farmer Insurance Scheme
The government of Telangana is having a disagreement with the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) about how to pay for the Rythu Bima insurance scheme.
This scheme provides money to families of farmers who have died.
The government wants to pay in parts, but LIC says the agreement requires all the money to be paid at once.
Because of this, over 200 families who need the insurance money are waiting.
The total amount the government needs to pay is around Rs 1,300 crore.
If the government and LIC don't come to an agreement soon, the insurance plan could be stopped.
LIC rejected Telangana government's request to pay Rythu Bima premium in installments.
The government owes around Rs 1,300 crore for the scheme's renewal.
Over 200 farmer families' insurance claims are pending due to the dispute.
Rythu Bima provides Rs 5 lakh life insurance to 45 lakh farmers in Telangana.
LIC stated the entire premium must be paid upfront per the agreement.
