Nadda Engages Anti-Reservation Protesters Amid BJP’s Upper-Caste Dilemma

Nadda Engages Anti-Reservation Protesters Amid BJP’s Upper-Caste Dilemma

Some protesters want reservations to be based more on a person’s income than on caste.

They say this should apply to education and government jobs.

They also say they do not want to take away protections for SC, ST and OBC communities.

J.P. Nadda met some of the protesters and said they had a friendly discussion.

He did not explain what was agreed or whether their demands would be accepted.

Brajesh Pathak had also met the group and said he would pass their concerns to the BJP’s central leaders.

Observers believe the BJP is trying to reassure upper-caste voters.

They also say changing the reservation system would be very difficult politically.
