Russia Proposes VAT Increase to Fund Ukraine War
The Russian government is thinking about raising a tax called Value-Added Tax (VAT) to pay for its war in Ukraine.
The VAT is like a sales tax.
Right now, it's at 20%, but the government wants to make it 22% starting in 2026.
This means things might cost a little more.
The money from this extra tax will go towards the military.
The President of Russia mentioned that other countries, like the United States, raised taxes during past wars to pay for them too.
The Russian finance ministry proposed increasing VAT.
The VAT rate is currently 20%.
The proposal is to raise the VAT to 22%.
The increase is planned to start in 2026.
The reason for the increase is to fund military spending.
