Vande Mataram vs Tamil Thai Vazhthu at Convocation
There is a big argument about which song should be sung first at a university event in Tamil Nadu.
The Governor's Office wants the national song Vande Mataram to be sung first, followed by the national anthem and then the state anthem Tamil Thai Vazhthu.
But some political parties, like CPI(M) and PMK, are upset because they think the state anthem should be sung first.
They say the Governor's Office is disrespecting Tamil culture and breaking the rules.
They want the Tamil Nadu government to step in and make sure Tamil Thai Vazhthu is sung first.
The Governor's Office directed Vande Mataram to be sung first at the convocation, followed by the national anthem and then Tamil Thai Vazhthu.
CPI(M) and PMK condemned the directive, demanding Tamil Thai Vazhthu be sung first.
The parties accused the Governor's Office of encroaching upon state rights and disrespecting Tamil linguistic pride.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs issued a clarification stating the state anthem should be sung first.
The parties demanded the Tamil Nadu government intervene to ensure Tamil Thai Vazhthu is sung first.
